Zoom and Google Meet Hack

I discovered a way to be accountable to breakout room sessions and have group work simulate more of a classroom setting. Zoom has a great system of breaking participants into groups for group work but it has some downfalls. Host can only monitor rooms one at a time because it seems the program doesn't create separate breakout room links. This can help organize groups but cannot help with accountability on who is doing what in each breakout room. There are some ways to encourage accountability. Have a group leader in each breakout room or if you want more control to oversee groups then you can create separate google meet links and break out groups from google meet. This will help participants access each room more freely and is great for quick student recap on who belongs to which group. I find the system hack simulates how teachers operate in the classroom and gives students agency on what group they were in. So, to recap.

1.)Go into Zoom

2.)Create breakout rooms

3.)Assign a group leader for accountability

4.)Have group leader report back

or

1.)Go into zoom

2.)Put everyone on mute.

3.)Create how many breakout room links in google meet

4.)Paste links to breakout rooms on zoom

5.)Have partcipants enter breakout rooms they were assigned to

6.)Monitor each breakout room simultaneously
