Quote response on education

"Education is sharing, and then enabling, then letting go."-Ed King (Emery, Gold, Braselmann, 2008, pg 281)
I wanted to take a breather on reflecting on technology and more on a vision of education.  The quote above was from a civil rights leader sharing his views on education.  There are many times where education become very teacher-centered, which does a diservice for our students.  Instead of developing critically conscious leaders, students are primed to become slaves of the system that is education.  We tell our students that they can be anything but the way we teach them is not reflective of that.  Integrating technology into the classroom does the same thing.  Instead of integrating technology in a way that teaches students to become critical and self dependent, students rely on technology to develop programs and systems for an authoritative figure.  Education, especially integrating technology in classrooms, should foster creativity by teaching learners to become critical and independent.
